The Biggest Threat to Zambia’s 2026 Elections? A Lie!

What if the biggest threat to Zambia’s 2026 elections isn’t a person or a policy, but a lie?
As the elections approach, Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, X, TikTok, and other digital platforms will be battlegrounds for truth. Disinformation, the deliberate sharing of false information, threatens your right to make informed choices and jeopardizes free and fair elections.
Four types of disinformation to watch for:
1️⃣ Domestic Disinformation: Fake quotes, edited videos, and false claims from local influencers, political cadres, or anonymous pages.
2️⃣ Coordinated Disinformation: Networks, sometimes from the diaspora, pretending to be ordinary Zambians to confuse, polarize, and fuel tribalism.
3️⃣ Deep Fakes: AI-generated videos or audio making candidates appear to say or do things they never did.
4️⃣ Visual & Short-Form Disinformation: Memes, TikTok/Reels videos, and edited images that spread quickly, especially among young voters.
Your role as a citizen:
✅ Check the source — is it verified or anonymous?
✅ Verify the evidence — multiple reliable sources like ECZ or trusted media.
✅ Watch for emotion — don’t let anger or fear drive sharing.
✅ Look for context — is the video edited or the quote taken out of context?
📩 Send suspicious content to iVerify Zambia and we will fact-check it for you!
If The Information Is Not Verified Do Not Share It!
