iVerify Zambia has verified the claim that the Chingola Municipal Council demolished houses in Kasompe as true. The government has condemned the action, initiated an investigation, and announced measures to support the affected families.
A review of a report from the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) Facebook page confirmed that the government announced the arrest of all Chingola Municipal Council workers involved in the demolition of ten (10) structures built on the Kasompe airstrip.
In addition, the official press release from the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, dated December 9, 2025, confirmed the incident and the government’s position. In the release, the Minister, Hon. Gift Sialubalo, stated that the government was saddened by the demolition of several houses at Kasompe Airstrip, which had negatively impacted families. He confirmed that the demolition was not authorized in a council meeting and was conducted without due consultation with stakeholders or the affected families.
The press release also revealed that while preliminary findings indicated the land belonged to the Zambia Civil Aviation Authority (ZCAA), the demolished structures had been built with planning permission from the Chingola Municipal Council itself.
Consequently, the government has launched a thorough investigation into the matter. The ministry announced it is working with Chingola Area Member of Parliament, Honourable Chipoka Mulenga, to secure alternative land for the displaced families.
