FALSE: Minister Jack Mwiimbu not Hospitalized, Viral AI image is a Hoax

Claim

On February 28, 2026, a Facebook page called “Zambia for All 2026” published a post which stated, “Information reaching us is that Jack Mwiimbu may not survive the night. Let’s pray for him.”

The post included an image of a purported Jack Mwiimbu on oxygen support in what appeared to be a health facility setting.

Verification

iVerify Zambia investigated the post and found the claim that the Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security, Hon. Jack Mwiimbu was critically ill to be false. A thorough examination of the image used to support the claim revealed that the image was generated using artificial intelligence (AI).

To further verify the claim, iVerify Zambia contacted the Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security Principal Public Relations Officer, Mr. Mwala Kalaluka. He confirmed that the Ministry was aware of the circulating false claim about the health status of the Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security, and stated that Hon. Mwiimbu was well, not hospitalized, and at the time of the call the Minister was in his office performing his official duties.

It is worth noting that the Facebook page “Zambia for All 2026” has a pattern of spreading falsehoods. Recently, the same page has published a series of fake press releases on a fraudulent State House letterhead. One such release alleged that President Hakainde Hichilema had resigned, a claim officially dismissed by government sources.
